Jefferson MS Cupola Restoration

Southwest DC’s Jefferson Middle School Academy has seen a number of recent renovations, aiming to usher the 1939 structure into the 21st century. The cupola, visible from much of the rapidly developing surrounding neighborhood, was deteriorated and in need of an historically sensitive restoration.
Studio Laan collaborated with General Contractor Broughton Construction to implement the much needed repairs, code upgrades, and installation of a new architectural uplighting system. Upon completion, Jefferson MS’ refreshed cupola will help the school return to its status as a neighborhood beacon and focal point for rebuilding of the Southwest Waterfront community.
